2015 Highlights

  • Amy Pezzente of BC Children's Hospital was honoured in the Health Care Hero at the 2015 BC Health Care Awards, presented by the Health Employers Association of BC; and BC Children’s ON TRAC youth transition initiative won an award in the Top Innovation category.

  • Researchers at the Child & Family Research Institute, BC Children’s Hospital and the University of British Columbia found a genetic variation that brings a five times higher risk of heart damage for cancer patients treated with a type of chemotherapy drug called anthracyclines.

  • Research by the Child & Family Research Institute, BC Children’s Hospital and the University of British Columbia found that infants can be protected from getting asthma if they acquire four types of gut bacteria by three months old.

  • ?Dr. Tex Kissoon, VP Medical Affairs at BC Children’s Hospital, was selected by the Council of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) as a Master of Critical Care Medicine.
  • Dr. Judith Hall, pediatrician, BC Children’s Hospital and geneticist, Child & Family Research Institute, was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.
