What we do
BC Children's Hospital (BC Children's) provides expert health care, including mental health care, for the most seriously ill or injured children from across British Columbia. Child development and rehabilitation is provided by Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, a program of BC Children's.
In addition to providing specialized pediatric services — many of which are not available elsewhere in the province – BC Children's is the province's leading teaching and research facility for child health.
BC Children's Hospital, including Sunny Hill Health Centre, delivers child and youth health and rehabilitation services and is the province's major treatment, teaching and research facility for child health, with 86,000 children cared for on an annual basis.

The BC Children's Hospital Strategic Action Plan identifies upcoming challenges and opportunities and related areas of action, which include
- Redevelopment with focus on the new Teck Acute Care Centre at BC Children's: The Teck ACC (2017) and relocation of Sunny Hill to the Oak Street site (2019)
- Clinical & Systems Transformation: Implementation of the clinical information system and associated workflow changes (the Clinical & Systems Transformation Project) in 2018
- BC Surgical Services Initiative: Participation in a provincial surgical services initiative aimed at improving surgical care and flow
- Child Health BC – Tiers of Service: Development and adoption of a provincial child health Tiers of Service Framework through Child Health BC
